Mildred City is located in the Northeast part of Allen County on U.S. Highway 5. Founded in 1907 by Sam Dermott for Great Western Cement Co. of Chicago. Cement was shipped all over the world starting in 1908 when the plant was completed. This boomtown lost most of its population when the cement plant closed.
Mildred City was honored as a nationally Centennial city for the celebration. A parade with all the fun and games, followed by a bean feed. During the celebration, thousands of souvenir pens and coins were given away marking the occasion.
Today, Mildred has a community building, a church, and Charley Brown's store where you can get a home-made sandwich and lots of friendly conversation.
The town was named after the company president, J.W. Wager's daughter – Mildred.
