Office of Allen County Sheriff

Welcome from Sheriff Ronald D. Moore

I ran for the Office of Sheriff and was elected in November of 1980. On January 12, 1981, I was sworn into office. I was following in the steps of several fine men who were Sheriff prior to myself. I have strived to meet the citizens demands and needs since taking office.

We currently have a staff of 9 sworn officers including myself, 1 process server who serves approximately 4,000 civil papers a year, 1 Emergency Preparedness coordinator who also assists in transportation of inmates and juveniles to and from other facilities, 4 full time jail officers and 2 part time cooks.

The Allen County Jail has 28 bunks, with a rated capacity of 14 people on long term sentence. We averaged 17 inmates in 1997 plus housing our females out in other jails. We house approximately 800 inmates a year with the amount of time ranging from a few hours to 1 year in the county jail. The juveniles are all housed at Girard in the Southeast Kansas Juvenile Detention Facility.

The dedicated officers of the Sheriff's office have all trained at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center at Hutchinson and they take great pride in their choice of careers and they strive to do their best to protect and serve the citizens of Allen County.

We have duties that are required of us to do by Kansas law and the staff goes beyond that by assisting the public when possible giving talks to various civic organizations, vacation security checks, out of state vehicle inspections, service of eviction notices, life line assistance and many ways when time and resources allow.

Allen County has contracted with Iola City to handle the countywide dispatching of 4 law enforcement agencies, 3 ambulance services and 8 fire departments.
