Gas, also known as "Gas City", is located in Allen County on U.S. Highway 54. Gas is 2 miles east of Iola, the county seat, approximately 50 miles west of the Missouri border, and 65 miles north of the Oklahoma border.

The small town boasts 100 or more attractive homes and many small businesses including one bank, two churches, a convenience store, cafe, auto repair/body shop, trucking company, antique shop, salvage yard, livestock auction and golf course to name just a few. Gas also has one of the last remaining, working drive-in theaters in the state.
